Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre welcomes your international students to the Griffith University EcoCentre which is located 10 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD. The EcoCentre is surrounded by the natural backdrop of Toohey Forest which is home to koalas and a wide variety of reptiles and birds, including the vulnerably listed Powerful Owl.

Visits by international student groups may comprise the following activities:

  • Bushwalk – A centre teacher will lead your students along a mixture of paved and unpaved forest tracks, pointing out a variety of native plants and animals along the way. Koalas resting in the gum trees are a regular sight on these walks.
  • EcoCentre Exploration – Students are provided time to view the range of static and live animal displays in our unique, sustainably designed building. The pedal powered television is a favourite with students!
  • Microscopic Water Analysis – Students use stereo microscopes to discover the incredible diversity of aquatic life in our creeks. This activity is particularly beneficial for those groups seeking a science focus for their students.
  • Live Animal Display – Your visit concludes with students getting 'up close and personal' with some of the animals that call the EcoCentre home. These include pythons, dragons, frogs, turtles and lizards. This session offers visitors plenty of photo opportunities for a lifetime of memories.

Visiting groups generally schedule two and a half hours to complete these activities. However, the program can be adjusted to accommodate your specific requirements, including shorter timeframes.

The program has been assessed as medium risk and a Curriculum Activity Risk Assessment is available on request. Catering can also be organised on request.
