Overview

A Bush Mystery is a whole day program immersing students in a scientific exploration of Toohey Forest.  On the day of their excursion, students meet ‘Detective Search-a-lot’ who is trying to solve the mystery of a missing animal in Toohey Forest. Students take on the role of ‘Nature Detectives’ to help find the clues to solve the mystery.  After learning about the external coverings of animals, students apply their knowledge to group different animals accordingly.

Students embark on a bush adventure to explore the forest and find clues to solve the mystery. Throughout the experience, they will observe the features of a number of plants and animals and group them according to their external features. They will also learn about the classification systems of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Students participate in an art activity which communicates the solution to the mystery for ‘Detective Search-a-lot’ who returns at the end of the day. Students are given an opportunity to share their learning from the bush adventure and solve the mystery.

A wildlife encounter with the residents of Toohey Forest concludes the program, discussing their observable external features and how they can be grouped.

A Bush Mystery has been assessed as medium risk. A Curriculum Activity Risk Assessment (CARA) is available upon request. An itinerary and Teacher Guide will be provided to teachers upon confirmation of your booking.
