Derivation of name

Acacia – Greek meaning "thorny tree"

fimbriata  Latin meaning "fringed"

Description

  • Shrub to 6 metres
  • Linear leave with single mid vein
  • Bright yellow spherical perfumed flowers
  • Flat seed pods with small black seeds

Human uses

Acacia seeds in general are nutritious and yield up to 25 percent protein.  Indigenous Australian ate the seeds green or roasted them to form a paste or damper.
