​Derivation of name

Polyscias  comes from the Greek for "many umbel", referring to generally large umbels in this genus.

elegans - Latin elegans originally was a term of reproach, "dainty, fastidious;" or “tastefully refined"

Description 

  •  Narrow tree to 20 m 
  •  Saplings often unbranched
  •  Crushed leaves and stems have a celery smell
  •  Tiny purple flowers 
  •  Purple black fruit when ripe to 5 mm
