Description

Protemnodon brehus

The animal lived sometime between 2.6 million and 40 000 years ago, within the Pleistocene epoch. It was a herbivore and probably ate a variety of plant foods ranging from grasses to leafy shrubs. In life the animal would have stood approximately 2 metres tall and weighed around 160 kg.

The EcoCentre’s fossils shows the 3rd and 4th molars of the upper right jaw. The fossil includes part of the Zygomatic Arch (cheekbone) which can be seen protruding from the side.
